A DATA STUDIOest. 2025

We build data products that hold up.

Data Argo is a small UK studio. We build data products — ours, and our clients'. Pipelines that don't fall over at 3am. Warehouses with a full audit trail. Intelligence products that turn messy media into clean, structured signal.

Some are ours.
Most are yours.
All held to the same standard.

Same discipline, same standards, whether the product is ours or yours.

TenderDigest

An intelligence product that turns messy procurement data into clean, structured signal. Built on the same patterns as ShillBoard — extract carefully, stage before trusting, audit everything.

/ STRATEGY

Data strategy, honestly scoped

Board-level, team-level, programme-level. Where you need to be, and a credible route there — with the constraints named up front.

/ PLATFORMS

Platforms built to be operated

Rigour. Observability. Documentation. So the platform still works two years after we've left — run by your team, not by us.

/ INTELLIGENCE

Unstructured to structured

Extraction pipelines and entity resolution that turn messy media — articles, transcripts, reports — into structured signal your business can actually use.

A working note from the workshop.

Working in the open. Method, mistakes, and the occasional receipt.

§ REPORT · NO. 001 · VOL. I · APRIL 2026

Why every AI-built data warehouse needs receipts

What I found when I went to check what an AI agent had actually built.

Three things we insist on.

These aren't values on a wall. They're how we decide what to take on, and how we know when something we've built is finished.

I
Principle · 01

Scope honestly.

If we don't know how to do something, we say so. If a deadline is unrealistic, we say so. If a platform choice will bite in eighteen months, we say so. Honest scoping is the foundation everything else rests on.

II
Principle · 02

Build for the long run.

The real test isn’t handover day — it’s whether your team can still run it in eighteen months. Rigour, observability, and documentation built in from the start.

III
Principle · 03

Be precise.

Nothing is approximate. If a number goes in a report, we know where it came from and who owns it. If a platform choice gets made, we can tell you why. The quality of the thinking is evident in the detail of the work — in the schema, in the docs, in the tests nobody asked for.

A Studio Position.

On data work, as we practise it.

I
A data platform is only as good as the team who’ll still be running it in two years. Handover is the measure, not the launch.
II
Most data problems are organisational problems wearing a technical costume. The platform won’t save you from unclear ownership.
III
Every pipeline has a bill. Most of them are hiding it. Know what yours costs, and at what scale it stops being affordable.
IV
Data: everybody wants it. Nobody wants to own it. The hardest problem in data governance isn’t modelling, or tooling, or the platform — it’s getting someone to put their name on it.
V
Speed matters, but not as much as being right. A fast report that’s wrong will cost more than a slow one that isn’t.
VI
The question is sometimes more important than the answer. Much of the work is knowing which question to ask, and when.
